Class Title: Chess
Open to Grades K - 5
Mondays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Dates: 1/13, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/24, 3/3, 3/10 3/17 (8 weeks, no school 1/20, 2/17)
Cost for Families: $255 for 8 weeks
Description: Learn chess with Magnus Academy, five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen's academy! We've taught 100,000 children to play, including state and national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have fun. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.
Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time. This in-person club includes free online extras, including weekly practice tournaments, a Chesskid Gold membership ($49 value!), and an event with a chess celebrity. Last year's guests were World Champion Magnus Carlsen and Judit Polgar (the best female chess player of all time). All chess supplies are provided. All skill levels are welcome. Description: Learn how to make yummy hot cocoa and earn money selling it! A hot cocoa stand is a great way to introduce our youngest entrepreneurs to the world of business and is fun! From designing marketing flyers to estimating profits to experimenting with recipes, students have fun while developing business savvy! As a showcase event, students launch their stand as a fundraiser for a charity they select!

Cost for Families: $300 for 8 weeks
Description: This winter, students will push the limits on the snack concept and prepare a variety of sweet, savory, delicious, and unique nibbles. This is not your mother's PB&J! Chefs will prepare a variety of bite-sized munchies like sweet mango salsa with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, veggie quesadilla with fresh salsa, Homemade Pretzels, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with Homemade Pita Chips, and more. No one will leave hungry this session!

Description: Get ready to spark your child's imagination! In this exciting adventure, your child will dive into the thrilling world of game design in a fun, beginner-friendly environment. They'll learn the basics of gaming mechanics, boost their problem-solving skills, and unleash their creativity as they bring their very own arcade game to life. Watch their confidence grow while they create, play, and share their masterpiece!

Class Title: Flag Football

Description: This will be an hour of skills, drills, and scrimmages for flag football players (or newbies!) of all experience levels. Run by Flag Star's team of positive, high-energy coaches, the kids will get tons of instruction, repetition, competition, and fun! The goals of this program are 'Get Better' and 'Have Fun', and any and all players are welcome to join. Weekly sessions will review passing routes, defensive tactics, and lots of in-game opportunities to learn and practice the game. Running parallel to the playoffs of the NFL/NCAA seasons, winter is the perfect time for your die-hard (or first-timer) to get out there and play some flag football!

Class Title: Introduction to Fencing
Open to Grades 2 - 6
Thursdays 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Dates: 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/13, 2/23, 2/27, 3/6, 3/13 (8 weeks, no school 2/6)
Cost for Families: $390 for 8 weeks
Description: This class is designed for both experienced and novice students. Students will be grouped based on their experience and instructed accordingly. An introduction to defensive and offensive tactics, posture, balance, and movement is taught to beginner fencers. This program will focus on the basics of fencing: mental, physical, and strategic aspects of the sport while providing a good aerobic workout. With the long tradition of "swordsmanship", the modern Olympic sport of fencing will be taught by International and Nationally Certified Coach Moniteur D'Armes, Tejav Safai, with close to 53 years of experience as a fencer and a coach.
The fee includes equipment usage (rental), including gloves, mask, jacket, and blade.

Cost for Families: $225 for 7 weeks
Description: Our Field Hockey Enrichment Program welcomes any student in grades 3-5 to participate in an introduction to field hockey. Led by the Bullis Field Hockey Head Coach, Caitlin Zolet, we will cover the basic skills of field hockey: dribbling, passing, and shooting. During the seven-week session, we will also introduce how to warm up and stretch properly for any athletic activity. We look forward to working with your child in a fun environment to develop their work ethic, coachability, and team-oriented attitude. Participants will need shin guards and a mouth guard. Students having their own stick is encouraged but optional, as we have sticks to borrow.
