Early Dismissal Process
Parents should notify Mrs. Sharon Platt of any requests for early dismissals as soon as possible.
For same-day early dismissal requests, parents must email no later than 11:35 a.m. If you reach out after 11:35 a.m. regarding a same-day early dismissal, there is a strong possibility that your message will not be received in time due to meetings, Middle School activities, and teachers being unable to check their email during instructional time.
To request an early dismissal for your child:
- Email Middle School Administrative Assistant Mrs. Platt, sharon_platt@bullis.org, with your child’s name, the time you will pick your child up, and the reason for the early dismissal (no later than 11:35 a.m. for same-day dismissals).
- Before the school day begins, inform your child that they should report to the Middle School office in South Hall at the specific time you will pick them up.
- When you arrive, park in the circle near the flagpole at the entrance to campus.
- Call the Middle School office at 301-983-5742 when you have arrived, and your child will be dismissed to meet you at your vehicle.
Steps 1 and 2 are key to this process. The details you send to Mrs. Platt in the email will serve as your child’s permission to leave campus, and step 2 ensures a timely departure.
Absences
- If your child will be absent, email Mrs. Platt, sharon_platt@bullis.org, with your child’s name and the reason for the absence.
- For planned absences, parents should email one week in advance and instruct their child to pick up a Scheduled Absence Form from Mrs. Platt in the Middle School office. The form must be signed off by the student’s teachers and returned to the Middle School office for approval.
Late Arrivals
- If your child will arrive late, email Mrs. Platt (sharon_platt@bullis.org) with your child’s name and the reason for the late arrival.
- Students who arrive late (not seated in class by 8:00 a.m.) should check in at the Middle School office in South Hall with Mrs. Platt so their arrival time can be entered and they can be issued a late pass to give their teacher.
- If students arrive late due to a medical appointment, they should bring a note from the provider's office to give Mrs. Platt, or the parent should email the provider's note to her directly.

- The form must then be returned to the principal’s office for approval.
