Margaret Andreadis
Lower School Principal

Thanks for your interest in our Lower School. From our Responsive Classrooms to reading millionaires, amazing arts program, one-to-one iPads and foreign language, and much more, I’m proud to tell you more about our program. Come for a tour and please visit this page to learn more about what we think makes our Lower School so special in the D.C. area.

Before you apply, you are welcome to take a group tour. Lower School tours are held on select days at 9:00 a.m.throughout the month. Please call 301-983-5724 to register for a tour, as spaces are limited.

Step 1: Application

The application for the 2018-2019 school year will be available on September 1, 2017.

Applications are due Friday, January 5, 2018; supplemental materials will continue to be accepted after this date. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.

Step 2: Tour/Interview

We tour and interview as many applicants to grades 3-5 as we can, but the calendar fills up quickly. Please call the Admission Office at 301-983-5724 after you have submitted your online pre-application to schedule the interview and tour the school while classes are in session. If you submit an application after the January 5, 2018 deadline, interview times may not be available.

Shadow Visits: While we do not provide shadow visits in our Lower School, prospective Lower School students may see the classrooms in session during a tour with their parents. Accepted students will be invited to spend time in the classroom with students in the spring after they receive their decisions.

Step 3: Testing

Applicants to Bullis for grades K-5 are required to have either a WPPSI-IV (K-1) or WISC-V (2-5) evaluation completed by an outside test center. The Admission Office is happy to provide you with the name of a tester in your area. Please contact the office directly if you need testing information.

Step 4: In-House Assessment

During your scheduled tour and interview, your child will take an informal assessment of his/her current academic knowledge in reading, comprehension and writing.

Step 5: Track your Status

Using the application user ID and password you can check the status of your application. All families are expected to follow the status of their child’s application online in the application portal. Please check this regularly to ensure that your forms have been received and your application file is complete before the application deadline.

In the Bullis Admission Office we strive for one thing in working with all of our prospective families: a personal connection with the applying student and a partnership with parents. Our process focuses on the whole student, not just test scores or transcripts. We feel that the personal relationships that we build throughout the admission process are the beginning of forging community ties that continue once you are officially a member of the Bullis family. You won’t be a number here, but a familiar face who will always be greeted by a warm smile.
