Counselors at Bullis

Bullis counselors are available to all students to help them adjust to the developmental, social and emotional changes they may experience during their time at school. Our goal is to help students and their families navigate issues that may arise during childhood and adolescence. In order to help students achieve success in school, we are available to meet with them individually and/or through a teamwork approach with parents and teachers.

Bullis counselors help students to:

  • Recognize their strengths and build self esteem.
  • Grow through the achievement of developmental milestones.
  • Learn strategies for problem solving and decision making.
  • Resolve conflicts productively.
  • Cope with crisis situations.
  • Improve interpersonal relationships and build social skills.

The Middle and Upper School counseling staff provides short-term counseling, mental health assessments, referrals to community mental health resources and consultation to faculty and staff. Counselors are available to families for consultation and referral services. Based on the social and emotional needs of the community, the Counseling Department also develops, organizes and facilitates educational programs for students, parents and faculty.

In the Lower School, a part-time counselor works with our students on Fridays. During the year she works with each homeroom on topics relating to the social curriculum (e.g., friendships, decision making, conflict resolution, etc.), thereby supporting the work of the classroom teacher. The Lower School Counselor is available to families for consultation and referral services.
