Lower School Philosophy

Explore, Create, Analyze

Bullis Lower School encourages students in grades K-5 to explore, create and analyze the world around them. Through a well-woven and integrated curriculum, Lower School students develop skills in all subject areas and discipline areas. Teachers embrace ways to provide individual instruction based on student need and interest and find challenging, innovative ways to stretch student learning to meet high expectations.

With a warm, nurturing, community environment, students in Lower School love to come to school each day. Through the use of Responsive Classroom, we provide not just a place to learn subject matter but a comforting place to take risks, spark curiosity, embrace challenge and be an active member of a class community.

A balanced experience at Bullis includes support and growth for each student academically, socially and emotionally. Our child-centered focus puts the emphasis on what each child needs and how to best guide and support their total growth. Students in Lower School engage in hands-on projects, small and whole class activities, technology integration in all subject areas, field trips as well as guest visitors to enrich the beginning of a Bullis life of learning.
