Head of School Dr. Jerry Boarman announced that Faith Darling will serve as Dean of Faculty of Bullis School.
"After a thorough search and interview process, I am pleased to announce that we have appointed Faith Darling to serve as our new Dean of Faculty, effective immediately," Dr. Boarman said in an email to staff Tuesday.
The letter went on to say, "In her more than twelve years at Bullis, Faith has risen to the challenge many times. She began as an Upper School math teacher in 2006, became chair of that department in 2008, and has been Director of STEM since 2013."
A colleague described Faith as "a natural leader who brings joy and positive energy to any group she is involved with. She knows how to cultivate talent and nudge people toward growth. She leads with kindness and provides concrete ideas for development." Faith played a leading role in developing the STEM Capstone and Research, Design, and Methods courses, established the first Bullis Makerspace through grant funding, advised the student creation of the Robotics program, and created and maintains a database of STEM internship opportunities, programs, and professional development for students and STEM teachers. She credits Bullis teachers and mentors for inspiring her to question her teaching, push past discomfort, and take risks, which is only possible within a supportive environment."
A representative and the principal from each of the three divisions (Lower, Middle, and Upper School) joined K-12 Director of Cross-Divisional Curriculum and Professional Development, Lisa Vardi and Dr. Boarman to consider the talented leaders who expressed interest in the role. Dr. Boarman thanked them all.
As Dean of Faculty, Faith will represent the full K-12 instructional staff, collaborating with division principals and the head of school as a voice for faculty. The Dean of Faculty manages and facilitates personal and professional growth for all faculty, serves on the Head's Council and Head of School Search Committee, and attends Board meetings as a non-voting member. Faith will continue to lead the STEM program as she takes on these additional responsibilities for the remainder of the year, and will transition into the Dean of Faculty role full time after this school year.
