During college, I explored jobs in a number of fields, including nonprofit management, psychology research and special education. I was happiest and most engaged when working with children.
I encourage my students to be active participants in their own learning, to think creatively and independently and work as part of a team. I want them to feel confident to take risks and to be okay with not knowing. I enjoy sharing pieces of my own life with them, from my New York nannying days to driving tractors in my Wisconsin hometown; and in return, I love getting to know my students and helping them develop the work ethic and abilities to be successful learners.
I like to get to know a small group of students really well and to build a safe and caring classroom community.I love design technology projects that integrate 21st century skills. A favorite project of mine is to have students design the “perfect desk” with a team of their peers. They learn how to effectively communicate, collaborate, create and execute a project. I incorporate reading, writing, and research components and end with group presentations. I love seeing them highly engaged in a project that they see through to completion!
