As a child, I loved learning. I was always fascinated with how the world worked and was eager to learn more. I also loved kids. So it wasn’t surprising to anyone in my life when I started studying to become a teacher. To me, that was the only logical choice. However, I will never forget the moment I knew I made the right decision: I was an intern helping a student who was struggling with a math problem. I was talking him through the problem, step-by-step, when suddenly, something I said clicked. I saw his eyes light up in excitement because he finally understood. Seeing that excitement filled me with such joy that I knew this is what I was supposed to do.

I believe the best teaching is done with a foundation of respect between the teacher and student. When the student understands you are there to help make them successful and that you have their best interests at heart, they realize that any work they put in is to better themselves. I also believe in authentic learning. When students are genuinely interested and concerned about what they are learning about, they often succeed. I aim to develop an environment that fosters authentic learning in students as well as opportunities to express their learning through a variety of activities, catering to the various learning styles of all students.

In my class, students will be able to make connections to what they’re learning in many different ways. I will always do my best to make their learning as hands-on and engaging as possible.
