Nic Bell to Join Bullis College Counseling Office and Lead Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse

Bullis School is pleased to announce that Nic Bell will join the College Counseling Office and serve as the new Head Coach of Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse beginning July 1.

Bell comes to Bullis from St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he serves as Associate Director of College Counseling and Head Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach. His appointment brings to Bullis an experienced independent school educator whose work has consistently centered on building strong relationships with students and helping them make thoughtful decisions about their futures.

As a member of the Bullis College Counseling Office, Bell will guide students and families through the college search and application process, helping each student identify opportunities that reflect their individual interests, aspirations, and circumstances. His career in independent schools has included roles in college counseling, admissions, teaching, advising, residential life, and athletics, giving him a broad understanding of the academic, personal, and practical considerations that shape a student’s path toward college.

Bell also brings a wide-ranging understanding of the college admissions landscape, including experience with the NCAA and giving national presentations on athletic recruiting. That perspective will complement Bullis’ comprehensive approach to college counseling and strengthen the office’s work helping all students and families navigate an increasingly complex process with clarity and confidence.

Throughout his career, Bell has placed particular importance on advising and the opportunity it provides to understand students beyond a single classroom, team, or application. His approach emphasizes listening carefully, earning trust, and helping young people develop the perspective and self-awareness needed to make meaningful choices.

In addition to his work in College Counseling, Bell will lead one of the nation’s most respected high school lacrosse programs. At St. Anne’s-Belfield, he guided the Saints to consecutive Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championships in 2025 and 2026. He was named the VISAA Division I Coach of the Year following both championship seasons and received the 2025 USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ Coach of the Year honor for Virginia’s private-school division.

Before joining St. Anne’s-Belfield, Bell served as head coach at The Taft School, where he led the program to the 2021 GEICO High School Lacrosse National Championship. He has also led programs at Trinity-Pawling School and Blue Ridge School. More than 185 of the players he has coached have continued their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level.

Bell’s leadership as a coach reflects the same student-centered philosophy that guides his counseling work. He is committed to knowing students well and helping them develop as scholars, athletes, teammates, and people. His experience, record of success, and emphasis on character and personal growth position him well to lead Bullis Boys’ Lacrosse into its next chapter.

A 2009 graduate of Brown University, Bell was a member of the Bears’ Division I men’s lacrosse program. He is also a co-founder of Cav Lax Elite-Boys and has coached within USA Lacrosse’s National Team Development Program.

Bell and his wife, Ann, look forward to becoming part of the Bullis community with their three children, Mary Jo, Grier, and Daley. Their children will join the Bullis student community for the 2027–28 school year.
