Upper School Students Represent Bullis at the Spring 2023 Model UN Conference
On Friday, April 28, 14 Upper School students represented Bullis at the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) Spring Model United Nations (MUN) Conference. This conference, at the Harry S. Truman Building in Washington, D.C., is organized in partnership with the U.S. Department of State and the Pan American Health Organization.
MUN is an activity that includes hundreds of thousands of students worldwide from middle school through college. Participating in MUN conferences teaches students to cultivate excellent communication and decision-making skills by leveraging the power of compromise, consensus, and cooperation for effective negotiations. Students step into the shoes of world leaders working together to solve global challenges. They represent different countries, learn how to research, practice public speaking, have a ton of fun, and grow into confident student leaders who are prepared for college, internships, and their future careers.
The Bullis delegation represented Argentina, Belarus, Denmark, Chile, Kenya, Morocco, and the Community of West African States in the following committees: the International Labor Organization, the Commission on the Status of Women, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crimes, and the U.N. Security Council. Our students represented their countries' views on topics ranging from cyber espionage to violence in the workplace, and they worked with like-minded delegations to debate issues and propose solutions. Students used collaboration, communication, and creativity as they wrote and defended resolutions to address real-world issues.
The Bullis delegation was awarded for their excellence in the closing ceremonies of the conference:
- International Labor Organization (ILO) Best Delegate: Argentine Workers - Vivian H. '25
- United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Verbal Commendation: Morocco - Rebecca E. '25 and Melina M. 25
- UNODC Honorable Mention: Belarus - Max B. '25 and Jordan S. '25
- UNODC Outstanding Delegation: Chile - Henry S. 24 and Clare V. '24
- United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Outstanding Delegate: Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) - Cameron C. '25
Congratulations to all of our Model UN Delegates for representing Bullis proudly!
