Head of School Briefing: June 11, 2021

Dear Bullis Families,

Bullis Head of School Christian Sullivan

A most extraordinary school year has come to an ultimately successful close. As I sit in my office looking out at a rainy, emptying campus, I am filled with feelings of gratitude and, oddly, anti-climax. We have been looking to this day since September 8, 2020, and it is indeed surreal to finally be here. Together, we did it!

Today, we concluded faculty meetings with a delicious lunch provided by our wonderful Parents Association. The lunch was simultaneously joyful and sad; joyful in celebrating the beginning of summer and sad at saying goodbye and giving thanks to our departing colleagues. These emotions are present at the end of every year but somehow seemed more intense this time.

I have shared with my colleagues the many expressions of gratitude for the work of the faculty, both teaching and non-teaching, that I have heard over the last weeks. Likewise, the faculty and I are extremely appreciative of parents' support and the partnership we have with families. Thank you so very much.

Next year, to everyone's great relief no doubt, I anticipate writing less than the last 11 months. I will, however, reach out at the beginning of August. Over the summer I will be visiting family in the UK for the first time in two years and will not be checking email as frequently as usual. Please don't hesitate to reach out, though, if I can help with anything, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

In the meantime, I wish you a safe, rejuvenating summer and look forward to seeing our returning families in August for a September 1 start of school.

Warmly,

Christian G. Sullivan
Head of School
