Head of School Briefing: January 14, 2021

Dear Bullis Families,

We just received the results from yesterday's testing, and all 855 people tested negative. Along with last week's results, this is absolutely terrific news, and is a testament to the community's commitment to being as safe as possible. Well done! While the numbers nationwide and locally are really worrying, it is encouraging and comforting to see that our community is able to stay safe. We had about 37 non-teaching faculty who were tested today, but once I had the bulk of the tests I wanted to let you know about next week.

As planned, we will be opening campus on Tuesday, January 19. The Lower and Middle Schools will be in Hybrid B and Upper School will remain in Hybrid A. We will be on campus on Wednesday, Inauguration Day, since it is a four-day week. Our excellent security will be even more visible than usual at the main and Democracy gates. If anyone is concerned about traveling to and from school, please contact your division head; they will understand if you would prefer to learn remotely that day but we will be conducting a full school day.

I also want to let you know that teachers in Montgomery County are in Group 1B, and according to Dr. Gayles, public and private school teachers will be treated similarly. It is anticipated that vaccinations for this group will begin in February. It is unclear yet how this will work for schools and teachers, but we will keep you informed, and hopefully we will all get our first shot very soon. Since the vaccinations are not approved for under-16's, any issues around students being vaccinated are obviously in the future for the time being. Teachers being vaccinated will raise safety and lower anxiety for all. Fingers crossed for a speedy roll-out.

As previously mentioned, enrollment contracts will be sent tomorrow. I would really appreciate it if you could attend to them as soon as possible. Thank you so much.

I hope you have a great Friday and safe long weekend. Stay healthy!

Warmly,

Christian G. Sullivan
