During this time of year, Bullis Student Tutors (BST) hosts an annual recognition ceremony. We welcome parents, tutors, teachers, and administrators to join in the celebration. This year we are keeping the tradition alive — the student tutors have created a pre-recorded ceremony for your viewing enjoyment.
In what has been a uniquely challenging time, we express sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Bullis Student Tutors for their incredible work throughout the school year. In a year when most of the world closed their school doors, our student tutors dedicated their time, creativity, and talents to helping their peers persevere.
While in-person tutoring was greatly impacted, the tutor team shifted the approach to provide virtual tutoring to students, enrichment classes in the middle school, and an internal tutor training program to boost our tutoring skills. In addition to their work on campus, the student tutors have been working globally to support learning communities around the world.
This year marked BST first successful spoken English program with students in Taiwan and our tutors expanded their student tutor YouTube Channel with fresh student-made tutorial screencasts. Over the year we saw our channel viewership increased by close to 250,000 views bringing our channel to over 600,000 views around the globe.
Each year the students take a moment to recognize one member of our faculty for their remarkable contributions to the Bullis Student Tutor Mission. A highlight of our program is the presentation of the Dr. Constance Giles Appreciation Award, named in honor of Dr. Constance Giles, a beloved member of our community who passed in 2016. Constance Giles served as the Executive Director of Curriculum and Institutional Research and she was loved and respected by everyone she encountered. She had a hunger for education and she dedicated her career to making Bullis a wonderful place for all of us.
This year we are thrilled to present the Dr. Constance Giles Appreciation Award to Dr. Celeste McDaniels. Dr. McDaniels is a role model teacher, Science Department Chair, parent, and beloved member of our community who works tirelessly on behalf of our students. Dr. McDaniels empowers her colleagues and her students, she respects the dignity in every one of us, and her passion for Bullis represents all that Dr. Giles stood for and endorsed. Thank you, Dr. McDaniels!
