Every year in the fall, the Bullis Parents Association (PA) funds faculty enrichment grants that educate students beyond our traditional curriculum with engaging and innovative experiential educational opportunities that benefit our students and their joy of learning.

This year the Bullis Parents Association is excited to announce partial and full funding for the following 12 Faculty Enrichment Grants. A sincere thank you to all of our faculty and parent volunteers for supporting this school grant program.

Below is a complete list of the approved grants for the 2023-24 school year. 

  1. Connecting Language Arts to Performing Arts (MS): The entire 7th grade class will have the opportunity to attend a live performance of Shakespeare's "A Midnight Summer's Dream" that will synchronize with their required text reading.
  2. Brave Spaces - Middle School Girls' Leadership (MS): This grant will screen three movies focusing on having Middle School girls discuss various topics on their roles, relationships, and leadership abilities.
  3. Logic & Deductive Reasoning Games for K-5 Students (LS): Various logic and strategy-based learning games will be purchased to enhance and refresh the lower school math library and resources.
  4. Shakespeare Theater MacBeth (US): The English department will take 9th grade English I and Honors English I students to a Shakespeare Theater Company performance of "MacBeth" to enhance the learning of the book.
  5. Gymnastics Unit (LS): Wedge mats and foam cylinders will be purchased for the Lower School Physical Education department as a new Gymnastics unit will be added to the curriculum.
  6. Japanese-American Incarceration Camps - Speaker Mr. Sam Mihara (US): Sam Mihara will return to Bullis as a speaker, this time for the Upper School student body to discuss his experiences of incarceration of Japanese-Americans during World War II. His engagement will also include discussions amongst key affinity student groups.
  7. Bullis Outside! (LS): Raincoats and water-proof bibs will be purchased for the littlest pups in kindergarten through 2nd grade to enable them to go outside the classroom during intermittent weather and explore our vast campus to infuse outdoor learning, exploration, and unstructured play.   8. Kre8 Mars Rover Engineering Project (MS): Space Robotic Kits will be purchased to enhance the Space Science unit for all 6th-grade students, helping them to uncover and discover rotation, eclipses, revolutions, seasons, and the structure of our Universe.
  9. Spoof School (LS): A beloved performer returns to Lower School as we invite back Drew Anderson. Drew has a keen ability to weave social and relevant issues into an enthusiastic and interesting parody using multimedia that provides the children and faculty alike with a rich and memorable experience.
  10. Ragtime at Signature Theater (MS + US): Middle and Upper School musical theater students will have the opportunity to see Ragtime at the Signature Theater and see what goes into making a professional production from acting, music, scenery, and the skills needed to make a show come to life.
  11. Green Bank Observatory - Radio Astronomer for a Day (US): This overnight trip provides students in the Astronomy class the opportunity to learn hands-on science research in modern astronomy and physics. Located in the National Radio Quiet Zone, this trip will surely spark students with a life-long learning of space and scientific exploration.
  12. Finding your Own Voice - Telling your Own Story (LS + MS): A series of three (3) speakers will visit the Bullis Library and provide students with an intimate look behind the authors' storytelling process. These authors and illustrators will also lead workshops for students to create their own outlets for sharing their history and narrative with the goal of having a shelf dedicated to a Bullis Student Collection of work.
