In one of the most memorable moments of the high school basketball season, the Bullis Varsity Girls Basketball team captured the Maryland Private School State Championship, defeating the nation’s top-ranked Bishop McNamara in a decisive 62–50 victory.

Senior standout Adora Nwude '26 led the Bulldogs with 25 points and seven rebounds, earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player honors. Bullis, ranked No. 2 nationally, executed a fast-paced game plan that kept McNamara from finding its rhythm and handed the Mustangs their first loss in three months.

“We’ve watched plenty of film and we believe that we are one of the fastest teams in the country,” said Coach Justin Leith, whose Bulldogs maintained control of the tempo throughout the game. “Even though they play just as difficult a schedule as we do, we didn’t think they could keep up with our pace… we did what we wanted to do today.”

The Bulldogs built momentum late in the first half with a 12–2 run capped by a clutch three-pointer from Dahlia Debourou '28, and continued to dominate in the third quarter with strong defense and rebounding. Taylor Williams '28 also contributed double figures in scoring, helping Bullis control the game through all four quarters.

Nwude, a recruit for Fordham University, said the team’s motivation stemmed from a previous season-ending loss in the Independent School League title game. “This was my last high school tournament so I just wanted to win the whole thing,” she said. “We were all on the same page and got it done.”

With this victory, Bullis not only claims the state title but also solidifies its position at the top of the final rankings, moving up to No. 1 in the High School on Sports Illustrated (SI.com) Maryland Top 25 following the championship performance.

This historic win highlights a season of excellence for the Bulldogs, marking a defining moment for the program and a high point for the players, coaches, and the entire Bullis community.
