Middle School Mosaic Unveiled
Thanks to a generous grant from the Bullis Parents Association, the Middle School's Open Studio art class worked with artist Arturo Ho to create a mural for South Hall.
The theme of the piece is "Learners Today, Leaders Tomorrow." To start the process, the students planned the image and then gridded and enlarged the image to fit the 8-foot by 6-foot board that the mosaic would be created on. Once sketched, the students cut and glued tiles under the guidance of Mr. Ho and added grout to complete the piece.
A group of twelve students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades created the mosaic:
6th graders:
- Hailey Roth
- Elizabeth Martin
- Summer Bernstein
- Kenadi Crawford
7th graders:
- Clarke Norman
- Ryan Bigelow
- Lola Wang
8th graders:
- Wendy Wen
- AJ Mallon
- Carolyn Tang
- Gavin Ferguson
- Rhys McKew
Unveiled to thunderous applause at the Open Studio art show in late February, the mosaic will be installed in March.
Mr. Ho worked last year with the Lower School to create a mosaic that also hangs in South Hall. This Middle School piece will be installed at the other end of the building in the south stairwell.
