Induction into the Bullis Athletics Hall of Fame represents the highest honor in Bullis athletics, celebrating those who have helped define its tradition of excellence.
We welcome nominations from alumni, family members, coaches, faculty, staff, and current students through the online nomination form.

Nomination Guidelines
- Nominations for individuals, coaches, and teams are accepted at any time.
- Individuals, teams, or coaches may be nominated as candidates. Current coaches are not eligible for induction.
- Candidates may be nominated posthumously.
- Achievements beyond Bullis will be considered in the review process.
- Supporting information is strongly encouraged, including local or national awards, seasonal or career accomplishments, personal records, and any other relevant achievements that may assist the selection committee.
- Nominations are retained indefinitely. If a nominee is not selected in a given year, the nomination remains active and will be reviewed in future cycles; resubmission is not required.
- Induction ceremonies are held during Homecoming Weekend.

Eligibility, Nomination, and Selection Criteria
Athlete - Individual
Athlete - Individual
Goal
- To honor athletes who exemplified excellence, leadership, and lasting impact in athletics at Bullis School.
- This award is meant to honor individuals who represent the best of their generation in an individual sport(s).
Eligibility Requirements
To ensure fairness and relevance, nominees must meet basic thresholds before consideration:
- The athlete must have graduated from Bullis School at least 10 years prior to nomination (to allow time for post-graduation accomplishments to emerge). In special circumstances, the 10-year post-graduation period may be waived.
- The athlete must have participated in at least one varsity sport at Bullis School for a minimum of two seasons.
- Nominees must be in good standing with Bullis School and have no history of violations that would disqualify them (e.g., confirmed doping, criminal convictions, character issues unbecoming to Bullis School or otherwise contrary to its mission).
High School Achievements
Induction requires demonstrated excellence during the athlete's time at Bullis School. Nominees should meet at least three of the following, with emphasis on impact to team success and individual records:
- Earned All-American, All-State, All-Conference, All-MET, or equivalent honors in their sport(s).
- Set school, conference, state, or national records in individual events or contributed significantly to team records (e.g., scoring, assists, wins).
- Led the team to a conference championship, regional title, high-level national ranking, or equivalent high-level competition victory.
- Received major awards such as MVP, Player of the Year, or Scholar-Athlete recognition at the school, conference, or state level.
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership, such as serving as team captain or mentoring younger athletes, while maintaining strong academic performance.
Post-Graduation Achievements in Athletics
To recognize sustained excellence, post-Bullis accomplishments are to be considered in addition to high school performance, but are not required for admission. Post-graduation considerations include:
- Competed at the collegiate level (Division I, II, or III) with notable achievements, such as All-American status, conference championships, or national tournament participation.
- Achieved professional or semi-professional status in their sport, including league play, international competitions, or Olympic/Paralympic involvement (e.g., drafted, rostered, or medaled).
- Set records or earned awards at higher levels, such as collegiate All-Conference honors, professional MVP, or Hall of Fame inductions elsewhere.
- Contributed to sports beyond playing, such as successful coaching (e.g., leading teams to championships), sports management, or advancing the sport through innovation, advocacy, or community programs.
- Demonstrated longevity in sports, with achievements spanning at least five years post-graduation.
Additional Evaluation Factors
The selection committee will holistically review nominees based on:
- Overall Impact and Legacy: How the athlete's career inspired others, promoted Bullis School's athletic program, or advanced the sport(s) regionally and/or nationwide.
- Sportsmanship and Character: Evidence of integrity, resilience, and positive role modeling, both during and after high school (e.g., community service, philanthropy related to sports).
- Holistic Balance: Consideration of multi-sport athletes or those who excelled despite challenges (e.g., injuries, socioeconomic barriers).
Other Considerations
- Graduation Year: Timing of induction should consider the graduation year for purposes of engagement at the induction ceremony; inductions will be held during Homecoming Weekend, and inductions at significant milestones such as 10-, 20-, and 30-year reunions could spur engagement or attendance.
Nomination and Selection Process
- The Athletic Director shall supervise Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame nomination process.
- Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee shall consist of the Athletic Director as Chair, a current coach with greater than 10 years seniority (if possible) as Assistant Chair, one additional coach as Deputy Chair, the Head of School, and four members of the Bullis Alumni Board Awards Committee.
- Nominations may be submitted by alumni, alumni family members, coaches, faculty, staff, or current students via an online form to the Bullis Alumni Board, including in response to the annual request for nominations.
- Nominations should include a detailed biography, supporting evidence of achievements (e.g., awards, publications, media coverage), and letters of recommendation.
- The Hall of Fame, including the Athletics Hall of Fame, shall have a landing page on the Bullis.org website that includes a link to submit nominations.
- Past and present coaches shall submit a comprehensive list of nominations, based on present-day records, to be supplemented each year.
- The nominations by coaches should otherwise provide the biographical information outlined above in support of each nomination. The athletes, coaches, and teams shall be added to the list of nominees for consideration by the Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
- Nominees are reviewed annually.
- Induction requires an initial supermajority vote (e.g., 75% approval) among the Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
- Once the nominee(s) is approved by the Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, the Bullis School Athletics Hall of Fame Committee will present the nominee(s) to the Bullis Alumni Board for final approval, with the requirement of a supermajority vote among those in attendance at an Alumni Board Meeting to obtain approval.
- Up to four individual athletes may be inducted per ceremony to maintain prestige.
- Ceremonies are to be held at least every other year.
Induction Ceremony
- Honorees receive a plaque, a similar plaque is placed in the gym, and recognition at a school event.
- Prior teammates, coaches, and managers are invited.

- To honor coaches who exemplified excellence, leadership, and lasting impact in athletics at Bullis School, as well as their off-field impact as educators, administrators, and community builders.
- Nominees must demonstrate sustained excellence and positive influence on students, Bullis School, and the broader community.
- This award is to honor coaches who embody the full spirit of Bullis School athletics—as leaders who inspire both on the field and in the classroom—while contributing to Bullis School's enduring success.
Eligibility Requirements
- The coach must have served at Bullis School for a minimum of 10 years in a coaching capacity (head or assistant coach), with at least 5 years as a head coach preferred.
- Nominees should be retired from coaching at Bullis School for at least 3 years to allow for a comprehensive evaluation of their legacy, unless exceptional circumstances apply (e.g., posthumous nomination).
- The coach must have upheld high standards of ethics, sportsmanship, and compliance with Bullis School and governing body rules throughout their career.
On-Field Achievements (Coaching Excellence)
- Demonstrated success in coaching, including but not limited to:
- Winning records, conference or district championships, state or regional titles, or national recognitions.
- Development of individual athletes, such as producing college recruits, all-state honorees, and professional athletes.
- Innovative coaching strategies that advanced the program or sport at the high school level.
- Awards and honors received, such as Coach of the Year at conference, regional, state, or national levels.
- Longevity and consistency in building competitive programs, with emphasis on sustained performance rather than isolated successes.
- Building an elite program that was not previously a top-tier program at Bullis School.
Off-Field Achievements as a Teacher and/or Administrator
- Excellence in teaching roles, if applicable, including:
- Positive impact on student academic performance, such as high pass rates, innovative curriculum development, or mentorship leading to student scholarships and achievements.
- Recognition as an educator, such as Teacher of the Year awards, professional development contributions, or leadership in academic departments.
- Recognition as a cornerstone or otherwise essential teacher for an individual subject and/or program.
- Contributions in administrative capacities, such as:
- Serving as athletic director, department head, or in other leadership roles that improved Bullis School operations, facilities, or policies.
- Initiatives that enhanced school extracurricular programs beyond athletics.
- Evidence of holistic student development, including fostering life skills like leadership, resilience, and teamwork through coaching and teaching.
Overall Contribution to the Bullis School and Community
- Broader impact on Bullis School culture, such as:
- Building school spirit, unity, and pride through athletic programs.
- Mentoring other coaches, teachers, or staff, or contributing to professional growth within the school.
- Fundraising efforts, facility improvements, or program expansions that benefited the entire student body.
- Community involvement, including:
- Volunteer work, youth development programs, or partnerships with local organizations that extended the school's reach.
- Advocacy for student well-being, such as anti-bullying initiatives and inclusion efforts.
- Legacy of positive influence, measured by testimonials from former students, colleagues, and community members highlighting long-term effects on personal and professional development.

Goal
- These criteria are designed to honor exceptional team achievements that exemplify excellence, sportsmanship, and lasting impact on Bullis School's athletic legacy.
- This award is to honor teams that not only dominated competitively but also elevated Bullis School's athletic tradition.
Eligibility Requirements
- Time Since Achievement: The team's season must have concluded at least 5 years prior to nomination to allow for historical perspective and legacy evaluation.
- Sport Recognition: Teams must compete in a varsity-level sport officially sanctioned by the school and relevant governing bodies (e.g., state athletic association).
- Complete Team: Induction honors the full roster, coaching staff, and support personnel from the specific season. Partial teams (e.g., 4x100-meter relay in track) or multi-year groups are ineligible unless they represent a single, defined season or tournament run.
- School Affiliation: The team must represent Bullis School directly (no club or feeder programs).
- Conduct: Teams with major rules violations, coaching scandals, or ethical issues during the season are ineligible, even if performance criteria are met.
Primary Performance Criteria (Must Meet at Least Two)
These focus on objective, on-field success:
- Championship Wins:
- Conference champions
- State champions (or equivalent highest level in the sport's governing body).
- National champions or equivalent (e.g., recognized National Champion of a particular governing body and/or sponsor).
- Undefeated or Near-Perfect Seasons:
- Perfect record (no losses or ties) in overall play, or no losses in conference/regular season.
- Win-loss record of 90% or better (e.g., 18-2 or equivalent), combined with a top-2 finish in conference playoffs.
- Record-Breaking Statistical Dominance:
- School, conference, or state records for team metrics (e.g., most points scored, fewest allowed, consecutive wins).
- National-level recognition (e.g., top-10 ranking by USA Today, MaxPreps, or similar outlets).
Secondary Impact Criteria (Must Meet at Least One)
These evaluate broader contributions beyond wins/losses:
- Historical Significance:
- First team in the Bullis School history to achieve a milestone (e.g., first conference title, first National playoff appearance).
- Overcame significant adversity (e.g., underdog status, resource limitations, or external challenges like injuries/community events), documented with evidence.
- Sportsmanship and Character:
- Exemplary conduct with no major violations (e.g., ejections, forfeits due to unsportsmanlike behavior).
- Awards for team sportsmanship from conference, state, regional, or national bodies.
- Lasting Legacy:
- Inspired future success (e.g., sparked a dynasty with multiple titles in subsequent years).
- Community or cultural impact (e.g., high attendance, media coverage, or role in school pride during a pivotal era).
- Notable alumni contributions post-high school (e.g., multiple players advancing to college/pro levels as a direct result of the team's success), without focusing on individuals.
