Monique Currie '01

Monique Currie '01 is one of the best basketball players to ever attend Bullis School. She helped lead the team to both ISL league and tournament titles in her junior year, which was a first for the school, and then helped defend the league title during her senior season.

She made the All-ISL team for basketball throughout her four year high school career. As a junior she was named All-USA Honorable Mention All-American by USA Today, a Maryland Miss Basketball Selection, the Girls Player of the Year by The Washington Post and a first team All-Met selection by the Post. She was also, as a junior, named the Gatorade Regional Player of the Year and 1st team All-County by both the Gazette and The Montgomery Journal. As a senior she was named a finalist for the Naismith Prep Player of the Year, earned Parade 2nd team All-American, WBCA All-American, 2nd team Street and Smith All-American, and Nike All-American honors. She was also selected as the USA Today and Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year while for the second year in a row earning The Washington Post Girls' Player of the Year award along with 1st team All-Met honors.

At Duke, Monique became the first player in ACC history to register over 2000 points, 800 rebounds, 400 steals, and 200 assists in a career, became only the second Duke player to be named a two-time Kodak All-American selection, and helped lead Duke to 30 or more wins in all her seasons with the team. As a freshman and sophomore she earned 2nd team All-ACC honors. As a junior she was a Kodak, Associated Press, John R. Wooden, USBWA 1st team All-America. She was also 1st team All-ACC and the ACC Player of the Year. As a senior she was once again a Kodak, USBWA 1st team All-American, and a 2nd team Associated Press All-American.

Monique was first drafted by the Charlotte Sting, acquired by the Chicago Sky in the dispersal draft, and later traded to the Washington Mystics.
