Fashion Technology Class: Combining Artistic Vision With Cutting-Edge Technology

In an exciting exploration of our Fashion Technology class, Upper School students embarked on a journey to express their creativity by developing their unique brand identities and logos. This project served as the foundation for a themed collection where students combined their artistic vision with cutting-edge technology.

The process began with students gathering inspiration from a variety of sources, including magazines and online blogs. They curated mood boards filled with images that resonated with their chosen themes, allowing them to visualize their concepts clearly. This step was crucial as it set the tone for their entire collection and helped solidify their creative visions. 

Once the themes were polished and refined, the students transitioned into hands-on learning in the BITLab, where they explored an array of fashion technology equipment. In a well-structured program, they rotated through different stations, mastering the use of digital embroidery machines, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, heat presses, 3D printers, and traditional sewing machines. This rotation format not only enhanced their skill sets but also taught them valuable lessons in collaboration and resource management as they worked together in shared spaces.

As the students progressed through their rotations, they discovered a newfound sense of teamwork. Those who had previously mastered a piece of equipment began assisting their peers, creating an environment of shared learning and problem-solving. This camaraderie not only enriched their educational experience but also fostered a sense of community within the classroom.

To demonstrate their mastery of the fashion machines, students created sample pieces that complemented their mood boards. This task allowed them to experiment and innovate, incorporating various techniques into their final designs. Some opted for simplicity, using their logos as embellishments on clothing, while others pushed their creative boundaries by designing intricate pieces for jewelry or accessories.

The Fashion Technology class has not only equipped students with valuable skills in garment and accessory design but has also ignited a passion for creativity and innovation.
