In the Season 2 premiere of The Point Podcast by Bullis, we catch up with a member of the Class of 2002 — Alyssa (McCoy) Agnes, P.h.D. Alyssa reminisces about her transformative time at Bullis, how Bullis had an impact on helping her choose her career in STEM, her focus on mentoring young black scientists, and her commitment to community.

Alyssa Agnes '02

Alyssa M. Agnes, Ph.D., is a highly driven and accomplished research scientist with years of experience in biomedical research. She is currently a staff scientist at Propagenix and a former postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology. Her current research focuses on the effects of temperature on the respiratory epithelial response to influenza A and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

In addition to her work in the laboratory, Dr. Agnes advocates for diversity and inclusion in bench sciences and collaborates with organizations to run STEM camps and workshops for underrepresented minority youth in the community.

In 2020, Dr. Agnes was named a rising star on the 1,000 Inspiring Black Scientists in America" list by Cell Mentor from Cell Press & Cell Signaling Technology.
