Meet Nathan

  • What grade did you start at Bullis and what is your class year?
  • I have been a Bullis student since second grade and I was actually a part of the first 2nd grade class at Bullis.  I am in the Class of 2024.

  • What activities do you participate in at Bullis?
  • Over the years I've participated in many different activities at Bullis: Middle School Emerging Leaders Academy, student representative, and I also participated in clubs such as Ethos, the Middle School newspaper, and the Robotics club.

I am a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society. I took the Making Minor class, and we chose a yearlong project to pursue using the BITlab. I decided to make a small-scale town using the laser cutter and 3D printer in the BITlab, and it was a great experience.

I was also in the Middle School jazz band.
I am on the Bullis tennis team as well.  I've participated in many community service activities, including going to donation centers such as the Wider Circle to help out, and going to an elementary school to tutor kids with their homework.  Outside of school, I play the piano.

  • What do you like most about the Bullis community?
  • My favorite thing about Bullis is that you have endless opportunities to pursue your passions, and the teachers will always help you.  The technology at Bullis is so impressive, as something that may seem impossible to achieve can become a reality with the help of teachers.  The support you receive at Bullis is outstanding, the teachers go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable, but also challenge you to achieve greater successes.  In every class, we have the opportunity to incorporate state-of-the-art technology from the BITlab with our learning to further deepen the subject.  For example, in 7th grade science, we scanned and made 3D printed versions of our entire heads when we were studying concussions and the practicality of helmets.  In 6th grade Spanish we constructed model houses when we were learning about how to describe homes in Spanish.  In 8th Grade Geometry, we laser-cut initials which were made out of different angles.  We make full use of the great resources provided to us.

  • What are you most passionate about and why?
  • I'm passionate about traveling because I get to appreciate different cultures.  It's incredible how diverse our world is, and I want to experience as much of it as possible.  I've already been to many countries, including the United Kingdom, Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia, Canada, France, Spain, South Korea, China, and much more.  I think each time I return from a destination, I gain something and come back as a different person, one with greater knowledge and insight on the world.

  • What global challenge would you like to see tackled and how do you see yourself contributing to the positive change that you desire?
  • Global Warming is something I would like to see tackled now.  In eight years, our world will be at a point where we can't reverse and fix global warming.  We, as the next generation, need to take action so our future is preserved.  Even though this problem may seem too big for us to solve, each person needs to contribute in order for a solution. I see myself contributing by keeping up with the news so I stay aware of current events, walking more often when I can because transportation produces a lot of emissions, and always taking the opportunity to learn more about global warming.

  • Why Bullis?
  • You should choose Bullis because our community is so welcoming and makes everyone feel valued.  Our teachers want the best for us and push and challenge us so we can improve and learn.  Bullis has so many resources available to help us, and at Bullis, you can find your passion.  I've grown so much as a student, leader, and citizen of the world with the support of Bullis, and I truly believe the words caring, challenging, and community represents our school well.
