How long have you been at Bullis?

Since 2002

What role or roles do you play at Bullis? If you are teaching faculty, what do you teach?

Social Studies Department Chair and the Director of Upper School Global Studies

What made you decide to work in an educational setting?

I have always loved being a student...from preschool to graduate school. I'm happiest when I am learning and growing. I wanted to encourage that same love of learning in my students.

What is your favorite thing about working at Bullis?

The inspiring students...they make me hopeful for the future of our country. They have such passion and insight.

When not at Bullis, what interests do you pursue?

I love to swim... I hit the pool nearly every day. I also enjoy singing and currently contribute to my church's virtual choir.

Who is someone that inspires you and how?

I have always been inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt. Her commitment to justice and equity was extraordinary in the time period. She did some of her best work after FDR's presidency, particularly her involvement with the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

What is the best book or production that you have read, watched, or listened to lately?

I had the opportunity to see What the Constitution Means to Me on Broadway 18 months ago. I just rewatched it on Amazon Prime. It is funny, poignant, and timely.

What global challenge would you like to see tackled and how do you see yourself contributing to the positive change that you desire?

I'm very passionate about Social Justice, particularly with regard to racial and gender equity. Many of the students in my Capstone have taken on topics in this arena, so I believe that as I support and mentor them I contribute to a positive change.

What is one fun fact about you that others may not know or may surprise them?

I started my teaching career in Hong Kong. I lived and worked at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for two years. I speak a little bit of Cantonese.

Why would you tell a prospective family to choose Bullis?

Both of my children are Bullis lifers. My son, William, graduated in 2018 and is a student at Yale. My daughter, Julia, graduated in 2022. I've had the chance to see the Bullis experience through their eyes. Highlights of their experience include excellent relationships with teachers, terrific college counseling, and the music and arts program.
