What made you decide to work in an educational setting?
The energy of young people and all the optimism of promise and roads yet to be traveled ahead of them. There is an inherent joy in being a part of a young person's journey to their future self and inspiration to the adults who realize that they, too, are still on their journey. Possibilities for growth and change abound. Every day is a new day, monotony has no place in a school.
What is your favorite thing about working at Bullis?
Bullis is a community that supports each other - whether through times of challenge or celebration, people come together. We recognize the potential in each other and challenge ourselves to continually get better. There are ample opportunities to explore and discover new ideas and passions.
When not at Bullis, what interests do you pursue?
I'm a habitual learner and maker of things. Knitting, sewing, and home renovations are a few constants but I'm always on the hunt for a new skill. When my fingers become blistered or back gets sore from my endeavors, I enjoy quiet reading and exploring the outdoors with my family.
Who is someone that inspires you and how?
I would not have gotten into education without the inspiration of my mother - a math teacher whose path I could only follow with her wisdom and guidance.
What is the best book or production that you have read, watched, or listened to lately?
I am learning so much from Roman Mars' 99% Invisible Podcast.
What global challenge would you like to see tackled and how do you see yourself contributing to the positive change that you desire?
Climate change - I am working to educate myself on what my family and I could do better to reduce our carbon footprint and sharing what I learn with others. Even a small part in the change is important.
What is one fun fact about you that others may not know or may surprise them?
I have an uncanny ability to find the precise center of objects (walls, pictures...).
