Lower School: Kindergarten - Grade 2
Instructions: Lower School Grades K-2
Follow these step-by-step instructions to apply to the Lower School Kindergarten through grade 2.
Step 1: Submit Inquiry
Begin the application process by clicking "submit inquiry" to fill out the inquiry form and to set up an account in the Admission Portal.
You will receive an email confirmation with instructions on how to:
- Confirm your Admission Portal account.
- Submit your application (see Step 2).
Step 2: Submit Application
Once you have submitted your inquiry and received an email with your login/password and application instructions, you may submit your application through the Admission Portal.
Step 3: Schedule A Virtual Parent Interview
- Once you have an application on file and have paid the application fee, please schedule a virtual 30-minute parent only interview.
- The interview provides a member of the Bullis admission team an opportunity to learn more about your child and your family’s educational goals and is a chance for you to receive answers to your questions about Bullis.
Step 4: Schedule A Tour
- Call 301-983-5724 to schedule a 45-minute walking tour of campus.
- The tour will provide parents and the applicant a view of Lower School classrooms, outdoor spaces, and current Bullis students engaged in learning.
- Applicants are encouraged to accompany their guardian(s) on the tour.
Note: In order to schedule a tour, applicant families must have an application on file and have paid the application fee.
Step 5: Recommendations
Recommendation(s) are to be submitted through the application portal.
- Kindergarten: Please submit one (1) recommendation letter from a current teacher.
- Grades 1 and 2: Please submit two (2) recommendation letters.
- One recommendation letter from a current teacher.
- The second recommendation letter can be from a current teacher, co-teacher, or a past homeroom teacher.
Step 6: Request Official Transcripts
- Complete and give the School Record Request Form to the applicant’s current school.
- Please return the applicant's school records to Bullis by email at applicationforms@bullis.org (the student’s name should be in the subject line).
Step 7: Required In-Person VisitÂ
- Applicants to grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade are required to attend an in-person visit where the applicant will engage with other children their age in educational group activities.
- Once you have started your application and paid your application fee, please call 301-983-5724 to schedule your child’s visit.
Step 8: Testing
- If within the last two years your child has completed educational testing, such as the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI), please send those results to applicationforms@bullis.org.
- The test results help our Admission committee gain a better understanding of your student's strengths and abilities.
- Submitting testing is optional and we will give equal consideration to applications with or without WPPSI results.
Step 8: Track Application Status
Using the Admission Portal application user ID and password you can check the status of your application. All families are expected to follow the status of their child’s application online in the Admission Portal.

Lower School: Grades 3-5

Note: In order to schedule a visit, applicant families must have an application on file and have paid the application fee.
- The required 90-minute visit will consist of a:
- 1:1 applicant interview with a member of the Bullis admission team,
- 30-minute on-campus test, and a
- 45-minute tour for the applicant and their guardian(s).
- To schedule your visit, please call 301-983-5724.
Step 5: Recommendations
Please submit two (2) recommendation letters through the application portal.
- One (1) recommendation letter from a current teacher.
- The second recommendation letter can be from a current teacher, co-teacher, or a past homeroom teacher.

Through the application portal, submit a graded essay or significant writing assignment from the 2022-23 school year. This writing sample should include the final grade, rubric (if applicable), and any teacher comments/feedback provided.
Step 7: Testing
Bullis will not require testing this year. Applicants have the option to submit the SSAT, ISEE, or Character Skills Snapshot, if you wish to do so.
Step 8: Shadow Visit
Emerging from the pandemic, we are reimagining our Shadow Visit program. At a minimum, we will offer a Shadow Visit opportunity for accepted students in the first week of March, immediately following admission decisions.
Step 9: Track Application Status
Using the Admission Portal application user ID and password you can check the status of your application. All families are expected to follow the status of their child’s application online in the Admission Portal.

- Supplemental materials will continue to be accepted after this date.
- Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.
