Student Handbook: Driving on Campus

Download a Bullis Campus Traffic Patterns Map

All drivers on the Bullis campus—parents, students and Bullis employees—are expected to observe the following driving rules:

15 mph speed limit: On all Bullis campus roads, the speed limit is 15 miles per hour.

No cell phone use while driving on campus: Driving safely on the Bullis campus requires every driver’s full attention. Please pull over if you need to use a cell phone while driving at Bullis.

One-way traffic from 7:00 to 8:15 a.m. and from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.: One-way traffic on central campus roads during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up allows for safer, quicker traffic flow during these peak times. Please do not exit the main Falls Road gate during these times. Use the Democracy Boulevard or Stadium gate instead.

Cross-campus road one-way before and after school, and closed during the school day (8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.): The road connecting North Hall and South Hall and separating Blair from the Library (along which the Lower School carpool line forms) is one-way going toward South Hall for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. It is closed to all vehicular traffic during the school day to ensue the safety of all students crossing between North Hall, South Hall or the Library and the Blair Center.

Democracy Boulevard gate is closed at most times, available only for exiting during peak times. This gate is open for exiting 7:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 - 6:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Closed weekends.

Stadium Gate is closed at most times, and open only from 6:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 - 6:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Closed weekends.

Always signal before pulling out of a drop-off lane: Please always take a moment to look around and signal before merging into a travel lane.

No parking along yellow curbs: Please do not park and leave your vehicle along a yellow curb at any time. Yellow curbs indicate emergency access lanes and/or areas where parking impedes other vehicles. Where yellow curbs are marked “Standing Only,” standing is permitted from 7:00 to 8:15 a.m. and from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

Parking is available along unpainted curbs. Please do not park in any space marked "Reserved" or "Students." Parents and visitors are encouraged to park in spaces marked "Visitor" or along any unpainted curb.

Because of the open nature of the Bullis campus, and the presence of drivers with varying degrees of skill and experience, the school cannot be held responsible for damage to vehicles on campus, except in cases where the damage is directly caused by a Bullis vehicle. Drivers take the same risks while driving and parking on the Bullis campus as on any public street or parking lot. This includes damage from potholes, speed bumps and other driving hazards, so please drive carefully while on campus.

Student drivers found violating any of these driving rules, or otherwise driving in an unsafe or reckless manner on campus, will have driving and parking privileges suspended or revoked.
