Welcome from the Head of School
Dear Students and Parents:
Every year at Bullis we renew our commitment to those values on the front gate. It takes creativity and commitment to make each year a new adventure in forging a caring, challenging community.
One of the ways we challenge ourselves each year is to embrace a theme that helps focus our efforts. This year’s theme is “Taking responsibility—for ourselves, our learning and our community.”
The faculty has been studying the latest research on brain development and learning theory in order to further refine their work in our Bullis classrooms. This year we will encourage students to understand their own learning more deeply, and to use this knowledge to achieve mastery.
In a world of rapid change, we all must develop our full capacity for life-long learning. This begins with taking responsibility, individually and collectively, for our learning in school.
The information contained in this Handbook for Students and Parents provides a framework for our understanding of responsibility at Bullis. The student who is mindful of these expectations and eager for the challenges that lie ahead will enjoy a year of extraordinary growth.Sincerely yours,
Tom Farquhar
Head of School
