Student Life

Global Studies

Students experience firsthand the distinct and exciting cultures of the world when they take advantage of the travel opportunities at Bullis. Trips vary in nature but all are led by Bullis faculty and may include study, community service, home visits and sightseeing.

Over the years student groups have traveled to a variety of destinations including Spain, Turkey, India, France, Thailand, Peru, Italy and China. The Bullis Model UN club participated in a conference in Russia, drama and choir students traveled to Italy and Austria to showcase their talents at international festivals and art students explored France and Italy while studying famous pieces and creating some of their own. Groups of students volunteered their time performing community service work with Habitat for Humanity in the Dominican Republic, Caring for Cambodia in Cambodia, and Learn Serve in Paraguay and Zambia.

Global Studies & Service Trips

Upper School Travel Opportunities 2012-2013

Caring for Cambodia: Students will transform their lives and those of others as they assist in the building of a house in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Students will work with Caring for Cambodia, a non-profit organization that works towards providing education to children in poverty stricken areas. They will also learn more about the history of Cambodia and Asia, and the hardships that are prevalent in the country.

Model UN—The Hague: Participate in an international five-day Model United Nations conference in The Hague, Netherlands, with over 500 students from around the world. After the conference students will spend a day or two exploring art, history and culture in Amsterdam. (January, Ms. Vardi)

International Habitat for Humanity Build: Participate in the Global Village Program and journey to Trinidad & Tobago for your Senior Project where you will have the chance to work side-by-side with local people building homes for those in need. For seniors only. (May, Ms. Yen)

Learn-Serve Trip to Paraguay or Jamaica: Participate in a transformative community service experience to better understand life in a developing nation. Two separate trips will run. (June)

St. Kitts Sea Turtle Program: St. Kitts has a rich historical, eco-touristic and cultural identity. Our students will have the opportunity to practice science in the field through their surveys of the vast biodiversity in the rainforest and collecting data while snorkeling in the reefs. Students will also participate in the late night or early morning beach patrols with the St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network to document and protect the leatherback sea turtles. (June, Dr. B)

Peru Exchange: Improve your Spanish language skills while gaining an increased cross cultural understanding of this South American country. Students will live with host families, explore historic sites, and attend the Leonardo da Vinci School in Lima, the capital. This three week trip will culminate with a four-day excursion to Cuzco and Machu Picchu. (June, Ms. Vellenga)

Choral Exchange: Experience the culture and history of Germany on a two and a half week exchange with St. Ursula-Gymnasium in Freiberg, Germany. The students from St. Ursula will be visiting Bullis in October, giving our students a chance to meet and know some of them before your visit. Students will spend a part of the trip attending school with their hosts, then spend the other part of the trip touring different parts of Germany. (June, Mr. Strunk)

Bullis Art Intensive: This is an opportunity to expose students to parts of France and Italy that boast the greatest collections of art. We will be visiting world-renowned museums and treasured landmarks as well as little-travelled towns and parks. Students have a busy schedule seeing the sights, but they will also have downtime to produce their own work to be displayed and discussed in an art show upon our return in the fall. (June, Ms. Donoghue)
