Extended Day

Extended Day Program

The Bullis Extended Day program provides students in grades 2 through 8 a safe and enjoyable learning environment where they can eat a snack, relax, play and complete homework assignments in a supervised setting at the end of the school day.

Extended Day special programs are also planned for select early dismissal and no-school days for Lower and Middle School.

Location and Hours

Bullis Extended Day is located in The Marriott Family Library. The Extended Day program operates Monday through Friday, from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m., including most scheduled early dismissal days.

Bullis Extended Day also operates on full- and half-day staff development and parent conference days.

  • Full-day Extended Day 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Half-Day Extended Day 12:00 noon - 6:00 p.m.

The Extended Day program does not operate on school holidays, and will close early due to inclement weather when conditions merit.

To ensure adequate supervision for all Bullis School students after regular dismissal, Lower School students not picked up by 3:50 p.m. and Middle School students not picked up by 4:00 p.m. will be escorted by a staff member to the Extended Day program. These students will be signed in and the daily drop-in fee will be charged.

Typical Schedule

In order to accommodate the needs of different age and grade levels, Extended Day students are divided into the following groups:

  1. Lower School students, grades 2-5
  2. Middle School students, grades 6-8

On a typical day, students participate in the following activities:

  • Snack time
  • Supervised outdoor recess (weather permitting)
  • Designated homework/reading time for Lower School
  • Study hall (located in the Library computer lab) for Middle School
  • Arts and crafts, board games, card tournaments, and other special team projects

** Fridays are known as “Fantastic Fridays,” offering movies for all students!

Registration

Parents who may have occasion to use the Extended Day program for their child(ren) are encouraged to complete and submit to the Extended Day Coordinator the Extended Day Registration form, which will allow for more efficient planning and communications for the program. Registration will automatically assign a reduced rate for daily charges.

While a 24-hour notice is preferred, students who are not registered are welcome to participate in the program at the daily drop-in fee.

Fees

  • Registered Students: $25.00/day
  • Drop-In Students: $30.00/day
  • Families receiving financial aid should contact the Business Office for more information
  • Half- and full-day fees will be determined based upon our planned activities for the day

Charges are billed for actual attendance in Extended Day on a given day. Billing occurs through the Business Office on a monthly basis.

Music Students

Students taking music lessons may attend the Extended Day program at no charge. Parents must notify the Extended Day staff of the date and time of their student’s lesson. The students will be escorted to the Marriott Family Library after their lessons where they will be picked up and signed out by a parent.

Middle School Athletics

Middle School students who are participating in an Athletics program who are not picked up at the conclusion of a practice or game are automatically enrolled in Extended Day at no charge. They must either be picked up and signed out by a parent from the Marriott Family Library or ride the appropriate 6:00 pm activity bus.

Tutoring in the Marriott Family Library

Students who are tutored in the Marriott Family Library after school must be picked up immediately following their tutoring session. If there is a delay, the tutor will sign the student in to Extended Day and the parent will be charged and billed for the daily drop-in fee. The student must be picked up and signed out by a parent.

Late Pick-Up

Parents are requested to notify the Extended Day staff as soon as possible if they are running late. A charge of $2.00 per minute after 6:00 p.m., as noted on the school’s clock, will be assessed and billed. Financial aid does not apply to late charges.

Pick-Up Policy

To ensure your child’s safety, and to comply with Maryland State regulations, parents are required to walk in to the Marriott Family Library to sign out their child(ren). Students are not permitted to exit the library unless accompanied by an authorized adult.
