Bullis Parents Association
- Internet expert, Robin Raskin, spoke to the students at Bullis School on Wednesday, February 27, and then addressed their parents that evening. Raskin has been translating technology into consumer friendly terms for more than 25 years. She is currently featured as a columnist on Yahoo! Tech. As an outspoken advocate for parental involvement in raising digital kids, she frequently makes presentations to educators, policy makers and the high-tech industry. Her day on campus was spent meeting with the students and explaining why the Internet works the way it does and how they can protect themselves. Because anonymity was a founding concept of the Internet, users must think differently about themselves and their friends – “relationships” become more complex. The students, both Middle and Upper Schoolers, not only were presented with facts to help them navigate their digital world, they also were provided an opportunity to ask any questions they had about the vagaries of the Internet. It was a most informative day for all involved. Handouts from Robin Raskin’s presentation [PDF]
