New tradition to celebrate school history and community
This October marks the start of a new tradition at Bullis: Founders Day! Scheduled for the Monday closest to the birthday of co-founder Commander William Bullis (he would have been 115 years old today!), Founders Day will celebrate our school history and the community, values and stories that bind us together and form the basis of bulldog pride.
To kickoff the tradition, the grandson of Commander and Lois Bullis, Mr. Edward Bullis '86, spoke and shared his own memories of the Bullis School co-founders. Speaking about their values of community, caring and facing challenges to grow and excel, Mr. Bullis connected the origins of the school with the very same values that govern our community today. He made the connection with the past, while reminding everyone that Bullis has always maintained the same values while adapting to current times.
Next, student government co-presidents Thabi Cooper and Jonas Hosmer led student teams from each division through a quiz challenge to test everyone's knowledge of Bullis history. The Middle School team of Nicholas B., Julia E. and Sebastian A-P. won the game and a blue/gold dress day for their classmates.
Special commemorative buttons (using an early version of the Bullis seal from the 1930s), learning about the history of the alma mater and the seal and birthday cake for lunch rounded out the festivities.
Happy Founders Day one and all!
