Apply to the Middle School

Scroll down for step-by-step instructions on applying to the Middle School.

Marilyn Moreno
Middle School Principal

Thanks for your interest in our Middle School. As a parent and principal, it’s an honor to lead the Middle School program and share everything that makes Bullis a great place to be during these important middle years. From one-to-one laptops and advisory groups that focus on important community and social skills for adolescents, to arts and athletics requirements that give every student a chance to explore and discover new skills and passions, we are developing future leaders and confident students every day.

Step 1: Application

The application for the 2018-2019 school year will be available on September 1, 2017.

Applications are due Friday, January 5, 2018; supplemental materials will continue to be accepted after this date. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.

Step 2: Tour/Interview

We tour and interview as many applicants to grades 6-8 as we can, but the calendar fills up quickly. Please call the Admission Office at 301-983-5724 after you have submitted your online pre-application to schedule the interview and tour the school while classes are in session. If you submit an application after the January 5, 2018 deadline, interview times may not be available.

You may also schedule your child’s shadow visit; see Step 6 below.

Step 3: Essay

During the student’s visit, we will ask him/her to write an informal essay in our office. No preparation is needed for this.

Step 4: Testing

Applicants to grades 6 through 8 are required to take either the SSAT or the ISEE. Our SSAT code is 1960 and our ISEE code is 210955.

Step 5: Shadow Visit

The visit is an optional step in the application process for Middle School applicants, yet it is an excellent opportunity for students to experience life at Bullis. The Admission Office has set aside select Fridays as shadow dates. Students must be active applicants in order to shadow, meaning that an application must be on file and a student interview completed or scheduled. Spaces are limited, so please call the Admission Office at 301-983-5724 to schedule this visit after you have submitted your application.

Step 6: Track your Status

Using the application user ID and password you can check the status of your application. All families are expected to follow the status of their child’s application online in the application portal. Please check this regularly to ensure that your forms have been received and your application file is complete before the application deadline.

In the Bullis Admission Office we strive for one thing in working with all of our prospective families: a personal connection with the applying student and a partnership with parents. Our process focuses on the whole student, not just test scores or transcripts. We feel that the personal relationships that we build throughout the admission process are the beginning of forging community ties that continue once you are officially a member of the Bullis family. You won’t be a number here, but a familiar face who will always be greeted by a warm smile.
