March:
Beyond the Books

“Take off your ties, feel
free to untuck your shirts,
and relax. Today is
Beyond the Books!”

This eagerly anticipated announcement—not always in March, just to keep students guessing—surprises Upper School students with an unexpected day off from classes. Special activities offer students helpful tools to thoughtfully navigate the obstacles and challenges placed before them as teenagers in today’s world.

Speakers, workshops, films and discussions address topics ranging from drug abuse to relationships, stereotypes and tolerance, community building and personal growth.

17-year-old speaker Justin Bachman, 2015 Beyond the Books, touched and entertained students with his talk about how he embraces his personal challenges.

SOME BEYOND THE BOOKS DAYS HAVE INCLUDED LIGHTER “LIVE A LITTLE” OFFERINGS:
Meditation, mindfulness and yoga | Puppy play time | Sports Talk | Outdoor ropes and challenge course | Drumming | Minute to Win It

Beyond the Books proves you don’t need to be in class to learn something about yourself and the world around you. There are many different ways to achieve your goals and reach your full potential.
