Popular author Fred Bowen visited Bullis last week to talk with Lower School and Middle School students. Bowen writes sports fiction for children ages 8 and up, as well as a weekly sports column for the KidsPost section of The Washington Post. He has published more than a dozen sports books, including five books in the last two years. Bowen entertained the students with replicas of historic baseball mitts and information about how baseball mitts have evolved over the years. He also shared his own method for writing stories, which the students could easily apply to their own writing assignments, from gathering ideas to organizing thoughts and then asking people to review drafts.
Bowen’s engaging and interactive style captivated his audiences and undoubtedly inspired them in their own writing.
