Upper School Athletic Offerings Letter For Fall 2012

May 15, 2012

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the Bullis Athletic Department, we hope that you have a relaxing summer. Fall pre-season is scheduled to begin in August, and we ask that you begin to plan as we prepare ourselves for another year in athletics. Most fall teams will begin pre-season practices on Monday, August 20, 2012, with the exception of Football, Dance and JV Girls’ Tennis. The specific dates, times and locations for Fall preseason can be found on our website at www.bullis.org. The page below is an overview of the options to choose from for all three trimesters.

Bullis School feels that participation in athletics is both a privilege and a responsibility. Members of the Bullis athletic teams are expected to make a personal commitment to represent Bullis in an exemplary fashion. We feel that because student-athletes represent themselves, their team, their program and Bullis School, they must be held to standards higher than the rest of the student body. These standards include policies in academic eligibility, use of drugs and alcohol, and sportsmanship. These rules apply at all times throughout the school year, beginning with pre-season tryouts, extending to the last day of school, and including any summer or in-season team activities.

The Bullis Handbook states that in order to fulfill your Physical Education requirement, you must participate in two activities per year. All ninth graders MUST participate in one of the listed fall sports or the fall drama production. Students in grades 10-12 are strongly encouraged to participate in either a

sport or the drama production during the fall season. At least one of the two activities for freshmen AND sophomores must be a sport.

Fall schedules will be posted on the website as soon as they are all finalized. Questions regarding any athletic policy should be directed to Kathleen Lloyd, Girls’ Athletic Director, or Andres Parra, Boys’ Athletic Director. If you have general athletic questions, please feel free to contact us.
