View a photo gallery of the Festival of Language
After a few weeks of researching the life of a Greek God (Latin students) or Hispanic person (Spanish students), our 6th graders recently demonstrated their knowledge at the annual Festival of Language. For this special event, the students dressed up as that person and were interviewed about “their” life. The event was a fun opportunity to celebrate great personalities from Hispanic and Greek culture, as well as a great opportunity for the students to develop research and public speaking skills.
Part of the event included a costume contest, judged by the Middle School staff and administrators. In the Latin division, the winners were Will Evans (aka Hermes), Haley Porter (Artemis) and Sean Weinberger (Zeus). The Spanish costume contest winners were Ashlyn MacKenzie (artist/designer Carolina Herrarra), Siena McKnight (artist Joan Miro) and Morgan Schwartz (artist Diego Velazquez).
Upper School students joined the event to conduct interviews of the student characters. Thanks to 10th graders Kendall Hay, Taylor Burriss and Chelsea Widerlite for conducting the Spanish interviews, and Brett Barrera, Sandrita Borckardt, Ian Giles and Adam Cohen for conducting the Latin interviews.
A delicious lunch of Greek and Spanish foods, provided by the generous 6th grade parents, was enjoyed by all to cap off the event!
