Bethesda Magazine and Bethesda Green selected Bullis as one of seven award winners at its annual Green Gala. Nearly 100 nominations were received, and Bullis won in the category of communities (neighborhoods, schools, condo associations or faith-based organizations) that are promoting and implementing green practices.

Dr. Gerald Boarman accepted the award on behalf of the school, recognizing the many students and faculty that together are dedicated to Bullis' green efforts. In presenting the award, Bethesda Magazine Editor and Publisher Steve Hull and Bethesda Green Executive Director Dave Feldman noted the many green steps Bullis has taken in recent years, from becoming 100% wind and solar-powered, to establishing the organic community garden that grows 30 different types of crops for the dining hall and classroom activity, and the environmental education and conservation activities the school engages in every day, in every division.
