About Bullis

Bullis has separate fields for baseball and softball, which were rededicated in April 2012 after the construction of in-ground dugouts, new scoreboards, enhanced drainage systems and other amenities and features to enhance the experience for players and spectators.

Bullis recently acquired 24 acres of land adjacent and contiguous to the original Bullis campus. With the addition of this acreage, Bullis became the single largest independent school campus for grades 3-12 in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

This land will be a key player in a long-term strategic master plan currently in development for expansion of the school. In the meantime, the beautiful land is the home of our cross-country course and has also become an outside-classroom for exploring and studying environmental topics.

Head of School Dr. Gerald L. Boarman lives on campus, and hosts various events throughout the year at his home.

Bullis has a year-round tennis bubble with three courts as well as eight outdoor courts.

The Blair Family Center for the Arts has teaching and studio spaces for vocal and instrumental music, theater arts, dance, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and ceramics. The center also has a multimedia computer lab and three multipurpose classrooms.

At the heart of the center is the 750-seat Howard Auditorium with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. The theater accommodates the entire student body and faculty for all-school assemblies, and has a flexible design that can be used for both small and large productions. The elegant lobby also plays host to Jazz Cafes and art shows. Graduation is held in Blair each June.

The School's Foreign Language Center is also located at Blair. Atop the Blair roof is a 110kw 540-panel solar panel array that produces much of the energy required to power the Blair Center.

North Hall is home to the Upper School, grades 9-12. In addition to classrooms, the building has science labs, a senior lounge called "The Commons" and the College Counseling Office, along with the offices for the registrar and Upper School administrators.

Upper School students attend some classes in other buildings on campus, but most take place in North Hall. The terrace at the front of the building is a popular outdoor meeting and dining space for the entire Bullis community.

This terrace, located between North Hall and Founders Hall, was expanded in the summer of 2012 to provide more seating and gathering areas. It has quickly become a favorite spot on campus for both students and staff, who enjoy the area for al fresco lunches, informal meetings, studying and socializing.

The Bullis Dining Hall and School Store are located in Founders Hall. It also is Bullis's administrative hub, housing offices and meeting space for the Head of School, Admission, Institutional Advancement, Alumni, the Business Office, Summer Programs and Extended Programs and Emerging Technologies.

The Marriott Family Library is a 15,000 square foot, online digital library that combines the best of a traditional library with access to new technology and information media. Through its robust subscriptions to hundreds of reference databases and periodicals, the library provides students with 24/7 access to content whether they are on campus or not. Two fulltime librarians work with teachers to provide resources and support for all assignments, while a lending supply of e-readers brings e-books to all students who seek them.

The library also houses the Bullis Academic Center which provides space for tutoring and academic support for students throughout the day. It also has classrooms, conference rooms, computer labs, tutoring rooms and a separate smaller-scale meeting and reading space for the Lower School. The Bullis Technology Office is also located here, offering technology assistance to students and staff throughout the day.

The library is not just a place to store books. Rather, it is a space for studying, quiet student gathering, speakers and meetings, and has become a hub for the school.

South Hall is home to the Lower School (grades 3-5) on the top floor and the Middle School (grades 6-8), primarily on the first floor. Students also attend classes in other buildings around campus, but most spend the largest portion of their day in South Hall.

The large playground and the quadrangle in front of the building provide great space for students to enjoy during recess and break periods.
